The Foods and Nutrition Department runs a Diet clinic which operates once a week in the college premises. Diet consultation is given for various lifestyle related disorders. The clinic is open for general public and is an extension activity wherein no fee is charged. It is a huge hit not only within the college but also attracts a large number of people from outside as well.
A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Besides good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle is a must to be able to achieve good health. As India is fast becoming the diabetic capital of the world, it is important to prevent severe metabolic disorders through lifestyle and dietary management.
A balanced diet is important because your organs and tissues need proper nutrition to work effectively. Without good nutrition, your body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue and performance.
Over the past few decades, there has been a paradigm shift in eating habits. With the rise in food processing and technology, the transition from eating wholesome, traditional foods to refined and processed ones has taken place. As a result our basic diets are losing the essence of being nutritionally adequate.
Under the patronage of the Principal, Dr.Sudha Katyal, the department of Foods and Nutrition, Government Home Science College has initiated a Diet Clinic, as a part of its outreach program and extension activity. It aims to provide free nutritional counselling and healthy diet patterns to individuals for all age groups and for those suffering from various metabolic disorders such as obesity, heart problems, diabetes, hypertension etc.
The diet clinic is open for public on every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
